How Did I Get Here?

Let’s start at the very beginning — or at least far enough back that you might be thinking, why do I even care about this random blogger’s childhood? Fair enough. Let’s do it anyway. My parents loved to travel, and they took me along whenever they could — short weekend trips to nearby towns, winter escapes to the seaside, summer getaways in the mountains. We weren’t luxury travelers, just simple wanderers, but those small adventures planted the seed of travel deep inside me.

As a kid, I didn’t think much about it. Travel was just something we did, like brushing teeth or having noodles for breakfast. But those early journeys taught me one quiet truth: there’s always more to see, more to learn, and more stories waiting just beyond the next bend in the road.

Growing Up, Learning to Wander

During my university years back home in China, I started to see travel differently. It wasn’t just about taking photos — it was about understanding how people live, how cultures grow, and why certain places move you in ways words can’t describe. My studies took me from classrooms to field trips, from textbooks to mountain trails. Every experience — whether academic research or a simple village visit — deepened my understanding of what travel really means.

By then, I was hooked. I knew that somehow, my life would always be tied to travel — not in a glossy, influencer way, but in a quiet, curious, lifelong pursuit of connection.

Finding My Way Back to Guilin

After a few years of traveling around China, I found myself drawn back to Guilin — the place where misty mountains meet winding rivers, and time moves just a little slower. Maybe it was nostalgia, maybe fate. Either way, I decided to stay.

I started exploring everything around me — hiking the Dragon’s Backbone Rice Terraces, drifting along the Li River, cycling through the narrow alleys of Yangshuo, chatting with locals over bowls of hot rice noodles. Guilin stopped being a destination and became a companion, a place that quietly teaches you how to slow down and see beauty in everyday life.

Guilin Town

One day, I began writing. Just small notes at first — routes, stories, local tips, things I wished someone had told me. Those notes grew, slowly, into this website.

Building Something Out of Curiosity

I didn’t set out to “build a business.” Guilin doesn’t need selling — it speaks for itself. What I wanted was to create a place where travelers could find real, human stories and honest advice. Not sponsored lists or clickbait itineraries, but reflections from someone who actually lives here and keeps getting lost on purpose.

This website became that — a mix of personal stories, practical guides, and lessons learned from trial, error, and a few wrong turns down dirt roads. If you’ve ever taken the wrong bus or missed a sunset because of bad timing, you’ll fit right in here.

Still on the Road

Today, I’m still here — writing, exploring, meeting people who remind me why I started all this in the first place. Guilin isn’t always perfect; sometimes it rains for days, sometimes the Wi-Fi cuts out right when inspiration hits. But it’s real, and that’s what I love most.

This site is my way of saying: Here’s what I’ve seen, and maybe you’ll see it differently — and that’s the best part.

Welcome to my corner of Guilin.
I hope it inspires you to slow down, look closer, and maybe, fall in love with travel all over again.
