Over my years exploring Guilin and its breathtaking surroundings, I’ve refined how I plan and experience each trip. Here are all of the tools, guides, and resources I personally use when discovering this beautiful region, from planning to setting out on the road.
Transportation & Local Travel
Getting around Guilin is part of the adventure. Whether it’s cycling along the Yulong River, catching a bamboo raft in Yangshuo, or taking a scenic bus ride to Longji Rice Terraces, I’ve tried them all and shared the most convenient ways to explore.

Packing Guides & Travel Essentials
From hiking shoes for the karst hills to light clothes for river cruises, these are my go-to items for traveling comfortably through Guilin’s diverse landscapes. Here you’ll find my packing tips and gear suggestions that make every trip smoother.
The best way to make sure you experience everything you want in Guilin is to plan it all out on a map before your trip. I keep a detailed Google My Map for every route I explore around Guilin and nearby regions.
As I research, I drop pins for every viewpoint, hiking trail, café, and hidden spot that catches my eye. I color-code them to keep things organized while on the move.
This helps me plan my days more efficiently, knowing which areas need extra time for exploration. For road or cycling trips, it also helps me set the best route. If I’m wandering around Yangshuo and get hungry, I can just open the map to see which local restaurant I wanted to try nearby.
Accommodation Resources
When staying in Guilin, I often use klook.com for hotels and guesthouses. It’s reliable, easy to use, and offers flexible options across the city—from boutique stays in Yangshuo to riverside hotels near Elephant Trunk Hill.
